Sugarplum B/OSS

By Tim McElligott

It’s Christmas time around the world and children have visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads. Yeah, right. Ask a kid today if he or she has ever had a sugarplum and you’re likely to get joystick in the eye.

Still, there is something to be said for the sight and sounds and smells of Christmas. For despite the pressure to spend money we can’t really spare and the stress of forcing together relatives we can’t really stand and the volatile mix of demands on our time from home and work that we don’t really have, somewhere between 7 p.m. Christmas Eve and, say, 3 p.m. Christmas Day, the magic of Christmas winks at us for a moment or two and we get that old feeling that anything is possible.

Well believe it or not, while this happens around the world in December, it will happen again in June. Maybe not in the whole world, but at B/OSS World.

As you can see all around this page, the Billing & OSS World Conference & Expo 2010 is being hosted in Washington, DC, June 9-11. And to me, the nation’s capital has a bit of that Christmas magic built in. Because no matter who is in the White House, no matter which party holds the majority, despite the many wars they’ve gotten us into over the centuries or crises they can’t (or won’t) solve, Capital City can shine like a tree on Christmas morning. Its institutions and the Constitution that resides there — and in the heart of every true American and perhaps in every heart around the world yearning to be free — wink at us for a moment or two and give us that old feeling that anything is possible.

I never tire of seeing Washington. So I am hoping you’ll join us there in June for the most important and informative conference on telecom software and services that you’ll find in the Americas. One that during the course of which you might get that old feeling that anything is possible.

Check back often as we update the agenda over the coming weeks. And in the meantime, tolerate your relatives, add an extra carat to that necklace, take a few days off work and have a Merry Christmas and/or a Happy Holiday.
