Tim McElligott is Editor in Chief of Billing & OSS World (B/OSS) magazine. He manages the editorial content of the magazine as well as Billing & OSS World Conference & Expo. He has been a journalist for the telecommunications industry since 1999 when he joined Telephony magazine as senior editor. He also was editor of the Independent, Telephony's print supplement chronicling the rural telecom market. McElligott had a 14-year career in the telecom service provider sector. He was a small but enthusiastic part of the engineering team at Ameritech that implemented the industry's first wireless data networks. He also brought down a few switches as a central office technician at Ameritech and mis-configured his fair share of cross-connects as a communications technician for AT&T.

'Customer-Centricity': More Buzzy than 'IMS'?
Remember when we were all a-gog about IMS? We just couldn’t get enough. IMS’ bloom faded long ago, but now we finally have a new word that rivals its level of buzz: “Customer-centricity.”

It never ceases to amaze me that with all the hot topics being bandied about in telecom software these days, that one of the most popular topics is e-billing. More specifically, it is about how you get folks to adopt it.

Tiered Billing for Wireless Data — Really? Bad Juju
Tiered billing. That phrase has a sense of finality, doesn’t it? But AT&T, which just implemented it, and anyone else who follows its lead, might have a bumpy road ahead. It’s just bad juju, as far as I’m concerned.
